Event Information

June 22, 2023
5:00pm - 6:00pm Eastern Time (US & Canada)

As various instruments in the international arena develop around the protection of Indigenous Peoples’ rights, concerns mount over the maintenance and governance of Indigenous data and intellectual property. Tribal governance models are evolving to navigate and respond to national and international systems. How does the growing body of Human Rights laws impact Indigenous Data Sovereignty (IDSov)? Will these evolving international norms lend themselves to supporting Tribal authority over traditional knowledge and IP? What challenges lie ahead in articulating and affirming Tribal governance within these shifting international legal systems? What are the solutions to these questions articulated by Indigenous Nations and their relationship with Western law?

Joins us as we bring together Frank Ettawageshik and Sue Noe from the Native American Rights Foundation to begin the first half of this two-part series on international discussions, policies, and Tribal governance.
